Welcome to Scourge of War where you are in for a real fight. In this game, you get to command army units and relive the intense historical battles from the era of regimental warfare. This type of game is called a real-time command simulation. It all started with Sid Meier’s legendary wargame “Sid Meier’s Gettysburg” (SMG) back in 1997. You may also like to download THE CORPSMEN.

This game broke away from the old wargame style of hex grids and dice rolls, placing units on a 3D battlefield where you, as the commander, could move them around freely. There were no turns—everything happened in real-time, and you could only pause the game if needed. This game also had a multiplayer feature that’s still popular today.

Following this, Sid Meier released “Antietam” in 1998, which introduced players to the tricky terrain of Sharpsburg and other battles in the Antietam Campaign. The genre continued to evolve with “Waterloo: Napoleon’s Last Battle” in 2001, followed by “Austerlitz: Napoleon’s Greatest Victory” in 2002, which were all built on Sid Meier’s game engine. In 2005, a new era in black powder combat simulation began with “Civil War: Bull Run” by Mad Minute Games. In this game stuck to the Sid Meier traditions but was a whole new generation, known for its strong AI and attention to historical details.

Their next game, “Take Command: 2nd Manassas,” came out in 2006, covering battles like Cedar Mountain and Chantilly. Both games received many  awards for their historical accuracy and the intense real-time command experience they offered.

Then came the “Scourge of War” series, recreating battles like Gettysburg and Waterloo in the same style. After many years we decided it was time to revisit these games. So we fixed some issues rebranded the game brought it to Steam upgraded the graphics and made performance improvements. The graphics engine is now better, and we’ve added a lot of new art assets. The AI has also been improved, making it smarter and tougher, so if you’re not a skilled wargamer, it might just run you off the battlefield.

The game now uses Steam’s multiplayer features allowing you to test your skills against other players from around the world the AI or both at once. So get your guns ready keep your powder dry and prepare for battle on these legendary historical battlegrounds!
